The hardest to see and talk about

David Foster Wallace died over the weekend, apparently a suicide due to depression! This is horrible news! I have not read his books but remember seeing his interview with Charlie Rose, where he sounded like an accomplished and erudite guy! Also, he wrote in the NYT couple years back about watching Federer being a religious experience...which I had wholeheartedly agreed with back then; although I am not sure what a religious experience feels like.

Also, just read that he gave a much acclaimed commencement speech at Kenyon. Even if you do not read any of the other links in this post, go read the speech today.

.... the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about. Stated as an English sentence, of course, this is just a banal platitude, but the fact is that in the day to day trenches of adult existence, banal platitudes can have a life or death importance, or so I wish to suggest to you on this dry and lovely morning.
And so it goes.
