Misinformation as news

Some thoughts following up on my earlier post on the 'season of Obama.'

In the face of the Obama juggernaut, how much longer before even the Democrats going against him in the primaries bring up the Muslim factor? (I am sure right-wing talk show hosts are are already screaming their heads off ranting against those slimy lying Clintons and that traitor of an inexperienced Osama..er..Obama! Someone in the Hillary campaign already brought up some disingenuous nonsense about Osama's connections to drug-dealing couple weeks back!)

Just a matter of time before it gets ugly again, I say - because you can bet money that they WILL go after Obama in new ways since the old ways of ranting about his lack of experience are not working.

This plays well into one of my earlier posts about the hogwash and bullshit that gets spewed across the media waves in the guise of being news! Instead of keeping the candidates straight, news outlets feed this beast with their own biases and provocative sensationalizing of matters - obfuscating the matter with half-truths and often lies - in their craze for higher network ratings.

Found a few illustrative examples from Media Matters about how misinformation gets aired under the guise of news regularly on our main news channels!

There are many many examples of this on Fox news but here is just one recent one concerning Obama.

O'Reilly falsely claimed "Obama has dodged every tough interview

CNN's condescension is not as innocent as it seems as it tacitly tells everyone: "hey..don't get carried away. remember..he's a black guy." Soon the Muslim connection will also be brought out, if its not already been done, more overtly by Fox News (and elsewhere!)

CNN's Bennett: "Barack Hussein Obama ... has taught the black community you don't have to act like Jesse Jackson ... like Al Sharpton"
Chris Matthews' double-standard: Makes Obama references like those he criticized from Kerrey

Daniel Pipes relied on disputed LA Times article to revive Obama-Muslim falsehood

And here's what Chris Mathews was spewing on the Dec 20th edition of his show, Hardball on MSNBC.

"Is the Hillary Clinton campaign trying to obliterate [Sen. Barack] Obama's candidacy? Not just beat it, but strangle it in the crib before there's any chance he catches on?" Matthews used imagery of Clinton murdering an infant Obama several times during the show, including saying that "the goal is to smother the young senator in his crib."

He really seems to have a thing for the Clintons!

Matthews, repeatedly using "cocaine," falsely asserted Clinton strategist "raised drugs"

Matthews asked about Clinton endorsers' "willingness" "to become castratos in the eunuch chorus"
