What a difference a day makes

12/6/07: House passes historic Energy Bill

hurrah, you'd think.... BUT a threat looms

Bush set to veto energy bill

Veto and Filibuster Loom for Energy Bill

And the next day...sure enuf...the senate itself starts the process of killing the bill. The energy bill stalls in the Senate and the update is that the senate
may vote on a pared-down energy bill this week!

12/7/2007: After Procedural Vote, Senate Moves to Negotiate Energy Bill
In what we interpret as a negotiating maneuver, this morning the Senate did not attain 60 votes to proceed on the House-passed Energy Security and Savings Act of 2007 and the Clean Renewable Energy and Conservation Tax Act of 2007 (H.R. 6).

Republican leadership effectively organized opposition to the bill, citing as objectionable (1) the increase in taxes on the oil and gas industries in the tax package and (2) the 15 percent national Renewable Electricity Standard (RES). These provisions have also drawn a veto threat from the President.

The tax title is of key importance to the solar industry because it contains extensions of the commercial and residential ITC for eight and six years, respectively.

See the article for a summary of the House-passed provisions.

Like a solar company CEO wrote:

What a difference 24 hours make!

The strongest solar bill ever introduced in Congress is hanging in the balance. This week the House passed an energy bill that included the extension of two necessary solar tax credits and increased the annual credit cap from $2,000 to $4,000. 24 hours later, the Senate concluded an administrative cloture vote and the bill failed to move forward 53 to 42.

So long story short is that it is
uncertain this energy bill will be made into law :(

P.S. You know where his affiliations lie!
