Oilgae

Some people are complaining about converting food sources into fuel (Read my post about biofuels)... but oilgae should be a winner, no? Or is there an algae-lovers association that is going to create a hue-n-cry about the loss of algae? I am sure there is some ecological disaster looming because of the unfettered harvesting* of algae... :)

Chevron Corp. will partner with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to research ways of turning algae into transportation fuel.

Wow..I am finding this is old news with biodiesel production from algae being a well researched area, with quite a few companies actively developing these products.

* This article mentions algae harvesting for "additives to ice cream, desserts, toothpaste, even diapers", with the latest craze being products based on seaweeds, including "seaweed-based skin creams based on purported anti-aging agents in a certain blue micro-alga."
